About Our Organization
The Missions 5K started with a vision after Rev. Bobby Clemons and Pastor B.W. Mcclendon were on a missions trip in Belize, South America.
During their visit they were helping with an orphanage home and the vision came to Rev Clemons to start a road race at St. James to support this orphanage. This started the birth of the Missions 5K/1K Run/Walk. Eventually the orphanage closed and the team turned their focus on find a group or organization to support.
After a few years of ministering in nursing homes, it was decided to support the Alzheimer's of Texas as the impact of this disease was witnessed upclose. For the last 8 yrs, the Missions 5K has supported Alzheimer's Texas with the core belief that through our efforts, prayer, and giving that GOD will through Research find the leaf that will heal this disease.
Each year the Missions 5K promotes health awareness and raises funds to Alzheimer's. Our selected charity was formed in 1980. The Alzheimer's Association is the world’s leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support and research.
Our event also benefits continued community health and wellness outreach and education efforts, such as preventative health screenings, nutrition education and physical fitness training by the St. James' Missions 5K.
